MBA -- a journey, experience and retrospective view on Indian society

MBA, Masters of Business Administrations. This short form of three letter PG degree is now very well recognised among the middle class society of India. As we know in this world, you like it or not, everything comes with an advantage and a disadvantage too. Engineering and MBA, both the degrees are now a days have become a craze in India. Parents now a days thinks that if his son/daughter is not an engineer/mba s/he do not have any value in the society. But must have to say its a thinking specifically found out in between middle class and upper middle class families in the society.

MBA degree is not new in India. It was taught since long back but with very prestigious institutions in few cities. It has become very popular by and after the time of Globalisation started in India. From the mid 90's the private colleges came into pictures with their tremendous marketing strategies specially made to target influential, cash rich upper middle class members of the Indian society. They have the dream to become a part of the upper class by every means like education, status, money and what not. They do not have that merit to be a part of the very few who are able to be a part of the prestigious and creamy colleges and institutions. They are just like the unlucky guy who have just reached the ticket window and a board call "House Full" comes on the face. Now he has the eager to view the movie, he has money and willing to pay some extra few penny if needed. Now the  road side video hall agent comes out to you and offer the same with a little extra money but with lesser comfort in the hall with some below standard sound and picture quality. It is a regular story of out urban cities and villages. To all due respects to these colleges and persons associated to them, they taken a birth to cater upper middle class only.

I am not spearing myself. I have finished MBA like one of these colleges. The difference only is it is a old one in respect to other colleges in Eastern India and to some extent prestigious also. But personally, I believe it do not have national or international standards of facilities and other essential things associated to MBA education. As it is a degree which have a global recognition so, these things must be there. Placements should not be the only goal which should motivate a future mba. Yes, you are investing money, if you do not get any return out of it, then why should you do it? Valid question but a string attached to it. If you do not have the basic knowledge then how will you get a good job? Try out once with TATA, HSBC etc dream companies you will know better. So, standards of the quality of teachers, lecturer, faculties must be upto the mark.

Now some people will say, "Ok, fine I will only join that college which has only ex-iim, ex-xlri students as faculty." Its not that easy, yes, he was a good student at his/her student life but it does not always means that he must have to be a great teacher who can helps to reach you to your desired goal. I am stating this from my personal and friends experiences. Its you who can gain knowledge and by yourself too. Do not depend on anyone  to learn. Do it by yourself. Its the only and best way to learn anything under the sun and I believe it from my heart. Books, internet, teachers are there to help you out to resolve some parts of the problem but finally you have to catch the bull. If you catch it by horns then nothing like it but the best.

IIPM:: Finally the real picture came in front of the nation

The Karnataka high court has issued notice to Bangalore University and the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, with regards to a petition filed by a batch of students from Indian Institute of Planning & Management (IIPM). The students were seeking refund of fees paid by them for pursuing an MBA course at the institute.

The petitioners have also sought a direction to the authorities to take appropriate steps to close or derecognize IIPM and prosecute them under relevant provisions of law.

Interestingly, Justice S Abdul Nazir, while hearing the petition, verified the institute's prospectus and asked the counsel what connection Bollywood star, Shah Rukh Khan has with the institute as photos of him were found in the prospectus.

"What has Shah Rukh Khan got to do with your institution? Does he have any contract as your brand ambassador? Or he is an old student? What is the connection? Can celebrities like him promote an educational institution as they promote a product?" the judge asked the counsel representing IIPM.

The judge also indicated that in case there is no satisfactory response from IIPM with regard to the queries posed by the court, notice may be ordered to SRK requiring him to appear and reply. At this stage the counsel for IIPM asked the court in a lighter vein to pass such an order so that they can also have a glimpse of the famed Bollywood star. The court has posted the matter to July 4 on the petition filed by Praveen V Mesta and others. The court was informed by the counsel representing Arindam Choudhary, founder-director of IIPM, that all the documents including marks cards submitted by the petitioner students at the time of joining the institute had been returned. Only the transfer certificate of Shreyas R is yet to be returned, the counsel said.

The petitioners who were admitted for a two-year full-time MBA degree in planning and entrepreneurship in 2010-11 have complained that inspite of their repeated enquiries, neither the IIPM had not disclosed any information pertaining to its registration, recognition, affiliation nor any provision of law under which the institute has been established or functioning. They also claimed that the MS University, Tamil Nadu which had certified IIPM as an approved onsite academic partner is a private University and cannot operate outside Tamil Nadu and doesn't possess approval for conducting distance education courses.

"When the classes commenced in a godown in electronics city, the devastated students questioned the staff about the genuineness of the course. To this the staff members revealed that IIPM was neither registered nor affiliated by any statutory authorities as required under law," the court was told.

"As per the prospectus, the IIPM is offering three categories of courses depending upon fee structure, highest being Rs 11 lakh and the minimum being Rs 4.7 lakh. Except one, the other four petitioners have paid two instalments amounting to Rs 2.5 lakhs," the court was further informed.

US police saw UFO explode in 1949: FBI secret files

London, April 11 (IANS) Secret FBI files that have been made public for the first time reveal that US police and army officers saw a UFO explode over Utah state in 1949.

On April 4, 1949, FBI special agents sent a cable marked 'urgent' to the bureau director, Edgar Hoover.

The document spoke of how an armyman, a policeman and a highway patrol, who were all miles apart, each saw a UFO, which they said exploded over mountains near Logan, north of Salt Lake City.

The memo is part of thousands of previously unreleased files that the FBI has made public in a new online resource called 'The Vault'. according to the Daily Mail.

The document said the three men each 'saw a silver coloured object high up approaching the mountains at Sardine Canyon' that suddenly exploded.

An earlier UFO sighting had been investigated in Logan in September 1947. Many witnesses told the FBI they saw 'flying discs' in formation that were 'circling the city at a high rate of speed'.

A memo from a special agent in charge of the Washington field office sent in 1950 says aliens landed at Roswell in New Mexico. The aliens came in flying saucers, the memo said.

'They were described as being circular in shape with raised centres, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three feet tall.'

The bodies were 'dressed in a metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed flyers and test pilots'.

Roswell in New Mexico became famous after reports that a flying saucer had crashed in the desert near a military base in July 1947.

The bodies of aliens were said to have been recovered and autopsied by the US military, but American authorities allegedly covered the incident up.

Another report said a flying disc 'hexagonal in shape' and 'suspended from a balloon by a cable' was seen in the area.

An MBA's Appointment with an Achiever

According to you, what is success? What do you understand by the word achievement? People who are roaming around the street and keep updating there resumes in various online job sites for fresh job entries every day are very much familiar with the above questions. They are well prepared and well rehearsed with answers. These are like some of the loose deliveries in the final over of the match and also in a very crucial situation.
Every year thousands and if not millions of MBA's passing out of various recognized, unrecognized colleges and B-Schools of India. There is a great opportunity to conduct a survey among these students about what they feel after completion of there study. Do they believe that they are successful in life? At least can think of being successful in near future? Actually what they think about being an achiever honestly from deep down corner of there heart? Most of them, if answer is from there heart, will tell you that they want huge money in the bank. First and for most parameter of measuring success!! It is right or wrong attitude... sorry, I do not have any opinion about that. Only thing which I really want to share here is that no one can enjoy or celebrate there success with out money.
There is no shame to share here that I am also a member of that large community who are just banging there head in each and every street corner of the city for a good job with there only weapon called "CV" with a flashy educational column written on top "MBA". There are "N" numbers of jobs are available in the second fastest growing economies market for very few number of people who are like to call themselves as "Experienced". So, there are very less oppurtunities left there to learn and contribute towards family and in to the nations GDP from larger perspective.
Only and probably the best option in these situation left there is to become an entrepreneur. To be an entrepreneur one must have vision, eager to achieve the goal and some money of course. Generally any pass out of a good quality ( not talking about premiere colleges) B-School do have these qualities. More over these qualities are in build, I do not believe that one can be taught about how s/he can set there vision of life, eager to achieve. If they have these qualities with them, then why they are doing an MBA? This questions answer is not clear to most of them. Many of them do not want to take risk in life, status, peer pressure, parental pressures are also there. We will get back to this discussion, lets take a short story break in between to find the meaning of success and achievement in real terms.
As a student of MBA in Marketing, I have a dream to be a part of advertising industry. I frequently search google for latest advertising developments and information related to companies in business. One fine afternoon, I found one company called A1Future Technologies, Kolkata have updated there website with lots of vacancies in Business Development Manager and lots other posts. I did not have enough time to go through the website in detail, I just shoot an e-mail applying for the above mentioned post very casually.

Mumbai HC verdict on PORN

Among teenaged minors, particularly boys in urban societies, watching a 'blue film'—a euphemism for pornography—is often considered a rite of passage, a coming-of-age staple, albeit a furtive one. But can adults who view pornographic content be charged with obscenity if they are doing so in private? No, says the Bombay high court.

Justice Vijaya Kapse-Tahilramani of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday quashed obscenity charges against top customs officers who were arrested following a police raid at a bungalow in Lonavla in 2008. Merely viewing an "obscene" film in the privacy of a house is not obscenity as defined under Indian Criminal Law, the court ruled.

The customs officers were raided while allegedly watching a pornographic film on a laptop and dancing with bar girls, the police had claimed.

"Simply viewing an obscene object is not an offence," Justice Tahilramani said. "It becomes an offence only when someone has in possession such objects for the purpose of sale, hire, distribution, public exhibition or putting it into circulation. If the obscene object is kept in a house for private viewing, the accused cannot be charged (for obscenity)."

The court held that the private viewing of an obscene film on a laptop in a bungalow was not tantamount to public exhibition.

The prosecution's argument that the accused were dancing with the bar girls in an obscene manner did not cut ice with the court. The HC said the people were dancing among themselves and not for public exhibition. "Proceedings against the accused (on obscenity charges) will be an abuse of the process of the court," said the judge.
The officers, however, are still charged under provisions of the Bombay Prohibition Act for consuming liquor without a permit.

The case dates back to August 2008, when police raided a bungalow at Taj Cottages in Lonavla's Frichhly Hill. The cops arrested 22 customs officials who were partying along with 11 bar girls. They were charged under section 292 of the Indian Penal Code (for sale, public exhibition of obscene objects) and prohibition laws. If convicted, the accused face a jail term of a maximum of two years. For a second or any subsequent conviction, the accused can be sentenced to a maximum jail term of five years.

The prosecution claimed that the bungalow was a lodge, and a public place. The accused, therefore, were publicly exhibiting the obscene film, the prosecution contended. Senior advocate Adik Shirodkar and advocate Samir Vaidya refuted this and pointed out that it was not the prosecution's case that anyone from the public could have walked into the bungalow. "It was a private party to which the public had no access," the lawyers said.
